Updating Your Display App

Keep your display screens running the latest version. Automatic updates, manual triggers, and version management.

Overview

The MasjidConnect Display App runs on your screens (Raspberry Pi, Android TV, or other supported devices). Like any software, it receives updates that add features, fix bugs, and improve performance. You can manage these updates from the admin dashboard without physically touching each screen.

Note

Version management is available on all plans. You do not need Growth or Pro to update your display apps.

Version Management in the Admin

In the admin dashboard, go to Displays Versions (or the equivalent under your Displays menu). Here you can:

  • See which version each screen is running
  • See how many screens need an update
  • Trigger updates for individual screens or all screens
  • View release notes for each version

The dashboard shows the latest available version and which screens are behind. Screens that are online will check for updates periodically and can be prompted to update on demand.

Automatic Updates

Depending on your display device and configuration, updates may be applied automatically. The device checks for new versions when it is online and may download and install them during low-activity periods (e.g. late at night).

Automatic updates reduce the need for manual intervention. If you prefer to control when updates happen, use manual triggers instead.

Manual Updates

To update a screen manually:

  1. 1

    Go to Version Management

In the admin, open Displays Versions.
  2. 2

    Find screens that need updates

The dashboard lists screens running older versions. Ensure the screen is online — offline screens cannot receive updates.
  3. 3

    Trigger the update

Click Update for the screen (or Update All for multiple screens). The display device will download and install the new version, then restart.
  4. 4

    Wait for completion

The screen may go offline briefly during the update. It should come back online within a few minutes. If it stays offline, see the troubleshooting guide.

Required vs Optional Updates

Required updates

Some versions are marked as required. These typically include security fixes or compatibility changes. Screens on very old versions may be prompted to update before they can continue receiving content. It is best to keep screens up to date.

Optional updates

Non-required updates add features or improvements but are not mandatory. You can delay these if you prefer to update during a quiet period (e.g. after Ramadan, during a maintenance window).

Tip

Schedule updates for a time when the masjid is quiet. Although updates are usually quick, the screen will restart and may be unavailable for a minute or two.
