Send a message to people's phones

Send a message that pops up on the phones of everyone who follows your masjid in the Community app. Good for a change of jamaat time, a new event or an appeal.

Four ways to send one

1. From the Notifications page

    Open Community app then Notifications

    Type a title and a message

    The phone on the right shows how it looks on a locked iPhone or Android phone.

    Turn on Show it on the screens too if you want it in your main playlist as well

    Press Send and confirm

It also goes under What's on in the app, so people can read it later. Sent before lists every notification with how many phones it reached.

2. With an announcement

Press Send an app notification on the Dashboard, or make an announcement in Playlists → Slides. Leave Notify in Community app on and save. The notification goes out straight away, and tapping it opens the announcement. See Add an announcement.

3. With a new event

When you make an event, leave Notify in Community app on and press Publish Event. Followers get "New event" with the event name. See Add events and take bookings.

4. From the portal, on your phone

Committees send notifications from the portal, which you can open on your phone. The Community app no longer asks staff to sign in. A phone that was already signed in may still show Masjid admin under More.

Good to know

  • A notification goes to everyone who follows your masjid and has notifications on. You can't pick a group.
  • It goes out as soon as you send it. You can't set it for later.
  • People can turn off some kinds of notification in the app's settings, such as events or announcements. They won't get those.
  • Urgent screen notices are also sent to the app, except car and parking notices. See Send an urgent notice to your screens.
  • Using a playlist template sends notifications for its sample announcements. Check before using one.

Good to know

Keep it to a few times a week at most. People turn off notifications from apps that send too many.

The Community app overview shows your latest notifications and how many phones each one reached.
